Coming to the Lord’s Altar
…I come to your altar, O Lord, singing a song of thanksgiving and telling of all your wonders. Psalm 26:6-7
Imagine what it would’ve been like to be David for a day… a man after God’s own heart!
In these verses from Psalm 26, David expresses his deep sense of gratitude and reverence for the Lord. As he approaches the altar, he brings with him songs of thanksgiving and a heart filled with awe for the wonders of God. The imagery here does a great job of capturing the essence of true worship and service to the Lord.
When we serve others, especially through ministries like Kitchen One for One, we are, in essence, coming to the Lord's altar. Our acts of service aren’t just tasks, they’re offerings of love and devotion to God. Just like David sings songs of thanksgiving, our hearts should be filled with gratitude for the opportunity to serve and make a difference in the lives of others.
Here’s three takeaways to consider:
Serving with a thankful heart… Just as David approached the altar with thanksgiving, we too should serve with a heart of gratitude. When we recognize all our blessings, it becomes natural to want to give back and help others. Our acts of service are an expression of our thankfulness to God.
Telling of His wonders… As we serve, we also have the chance to share the wonders of God with others. By serving others, we become living testimonies of His goodness.
Seeing service as worship: Coming to the Lord's altar is an act of worship, and so is serving others. When we serve with joy and dedication, we’re honoring God and acknowledging His presence in our lives. Our service becomes a form of worship, as we offer our time, talents, and resources to further His kingdom.
So, let’s approach opportunities to serve as if we’re coming to the Lord's altar. With hearts full of thanksgiving and a desire to share His wonders, may our actions reflect the love and grace of our Savior. As we serve others, let’s remember that we’re ultimately serving the Lord, bringing glory to His name and shining His light into the world.
