Advent: Keeping the Main Thing, the Main Thing

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

Advent is a season of anticipation and preparation for the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ. It's a time to reflect on His love, grace, and the incredible gift of His presence in our lives. As we serve with and support Kitchen One for One, let’s remember the words of Isaiah 9:6 and how it reminds us of the divine nature of Jesus and the hope He brings to the world.

As we enter the Advent season, it's a good time to reflect on our calling to serve within God’s Kingdom and support causes that promote God's agenda. During the holiday rush, it's easy to get distracted by worldly stuff. We have to remember that Jesus is the main thing… He’s the reason for the season.

Through our service and support, we have the unique opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus. By providing meals and dignity to those in need, we’re living out His command to love our neighbors. This Advent season, let's be intentional in our actions, recognizing that every meal served reflects God's love and compassion. As we prepare our hearts for Christmas, let's serve with joy and gratitude, knowing that we’re part of something much greater than ourselves.

One way to keep Jesus at the center of our lives during this busy season is to set aside dedicated time for prayer and reflection. Amid the hustle and bustle, it's essential to pause and seek God's voice. Let’s commit to spending intentional time in His presence, allowing His peace to fill our hearts and minds. This can help us stay focused on the true meaning of Advent and empower us to serve more effectively.

The good we do and the community we build through Kitchen One for One are testaments to the power of God's love working through us. Together, we can support and uplift each other, helping each other to remain steadfast in our commitment to serve and give. By working together and fostering a spirit of unity and collaboration, we can make a lasting impact on those we serve.

The Advent season is a time of hope. As we await the celebration of Jesus' birth, we are reminded of the hope He brings to a world in need of a Savior. In our service and in our lives, let's be beacons of that hope, sharing the light of Christ with everyone we encounter. May our actions reflect His love and grace, and may we be inspired to keep Jesus at the forefront of everything we do this Advent season.
