Advent: Embracing the True Spirit of the Season

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 (repeated from last week)

We are a couple weeks into the Advent season, a time of anticipation and reflection, and we find ourselves in the midst of the week of peace. Advent invites us to prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus, and this week, we focus on the profound peace that He brings into our lives (and our world).

In today’s busy, fast-paced, distracted, and often chaotic world, peace can almost seem elusive. However, the peace we celebrate during Advent is the presence of Jesus in our hearts and lives despite all that stuff. This peace is greater than our circumstances and should offer us a sense of calm and assurance, even in the midst of life’s challenges.

The Bible speaks beautifully about this peace in Isaiah 9:6, where the prophet declares, “…And He will be called… Prince of Peace.” This passage reminds us that Jesus, the Prince of Peace, has come to bring healing, restoration, and wholeness.

At Kitchen One for One, we’re blessed with the opportunity to share this peace with others, particularly with those who might not otherwise experience the peace, love, and joy this season is meant to bring. Our mission goes beyond providing meals; it’s about extending the peace and hope of Christ to those we serve.

To our amazing volunteers and supporters, your efforts are a testament to this peace. Each meal prepared, each kind word shared, and each act of service reflects the love and peace of Jesus. You are not only meeting the physical needs of people, but also touching their hearts and lives in a profound way. Your commitment to this ministry exemplifies the true spirit of Advent.

As we serve during this special season, let’s embrace the peace that Jesus brings and share it generously with those around us. Whether it’s through a warm meal, a heartfelt conversation, or simply being present with someone in need, we have the privilege and responsibility of being vessels of God’s peace.

May the peace of Christ fill your hearts this Advent season. Thank you for your unwavering dedication and support. Together, we can make a difference, one meal at a time, as we share the love and peace of Jesus.
