Wholeheartedly

Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.” Matthew 10:39

Do you ever notice how, often times, when we pray, we ask God to “be with us” in whatever we’ve already decided to do? What if you were to ask the Lord what He’s up to and if it would be alright for you to join Him there? How might things look different for you?

Jesus warns us against finding meaning, purpose, security, and identity in worldly things. The warning comes because He knows these things can lead to becoming morally and spiritually bankrupt. Essentially, seeking only self-gratification (our own wants and desires) leads to spiritual death.

Jesus emphasizes radical change… He calls us to be different than the world we are a part of. This looks a bit different for each of us, but ultimately, it’s a call to fear God and follow Christ wholeheartedly.

You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. Deuteronomy 6:5
