Be comforted, and then go.

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

It’s so important for each of us to go directly to the source of what we really, truly need. It’s important to seek the Lord for the comfort His loving mercy provides.

Many of us are really good at doing all the things, and staying busy for the Lord, but not so great at just resting at the Lord’s feet and allowing Him to give us what we need.

Consider the last part of the verses above… We are to receive God’s comfort so that we can go comfort others.

Now consider Mary and her sister Martha… As you read the story below, who do you imagine was able to then go and comfort others?

You see, God’s plan extends far beyond us being the consumers of what He gives us. He wants us to pass the blessings on. And if we slack in receiving what He offers, we can’t really be conduits of His blessings.

As Jesus and the disciples continued on their way to Jerusalem, they came to a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. Her sister, Mary, sat at the Lord’s feet, listening to what He taught. But Martha was distracted by the big dinner she was preparing. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, doesn’t it seem unfair to you that my sister just sits here while I do all the work? Tell her to come and help me.” But the Lord said to her, “My dear Martha, you are worried and upset over all these details! There is only one thing worth being concerned about. Mary has discovered it, and it will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:38-42
